MedConcierge Earns Prestigious Cornerstone Award
For Its Concierge Healthcare Service
Recognized by Broadband Properties Magazine as a Top Application for
Broadband-Enabled Properties and Communities
September 25, 2008 (Nashville, TN) - MedConcierge, a personal, healthcare concierge service,
received Broadband Properties Magazine’s prestigious Cornerstone Award in the new applications
category, at the Fiber-to-the-Home Council Conference today. The award recognizes the MedConcierge
service as a leading, broadband-enabled application that delivers lifestyle, health and economic benefits
to residents, properties, master communities and municipalities.
Scott DeGarmo, President of Broadband Properties, announced the award today, as the first of a number
of awards that will be given to organizations leading the way in bringing the economic benefits of FTTP
(fiber to the premises) to developers, communities, cities, and individual multi-unit dwelling properties.
A panel of industry experts evaluated scores of applications for the Cornerstone Awards’ new “Lightning
Apps’ category.
“As the infrastructure for fiber-to-the-home is now in place for millions of homes, the need for robust,
value-added applications, such as MedConcierge, become even more critical to accelerating return on
investment, and the next phase of broadband adoption, “ DeGarmo says.
According to the judges, the MedConcierge application stood out because it leverages broadband
communications to deliver enhanced services, such as 24/7 video-consultations with doctors, electronic
medical records and educational health and wellness content. MedConcierge showcases the powerful
role fiber plays in improving the quality of life for millions of subscribers, and lowering healthcare costs
for cities, towns and healthcare providers.
DeGarmo also noted that in the current economic and competitive environment, applications such as
MedConcierge delivered over fiber helps differentiate properties, communities and service providers
from local competition.
As the US healthcare system struggles under the weight of an aging population, a shortage of doctors
and nurses, and costs increasingly being passed along to consumers by employers and insurance
companies, broadband-enabled healthcare applications and services are in demand. MedConcierge is
the first health and wellness application to receive a Cornerstone Award.
The Cornerstone Awards are given to private developments, municipalities, communities, companies,
and individuals with outstanding accomplishments in the area of delivering telecommunications for the
benefit of end users.
